Gawker Staff Writer Caity Weaver and Associate Editor Leah Beckmann took a trip to AQUA Studios in Tribeca, owned by the tres chic Esther Gauthier, to try some under water cycling. They chatted about it here.

I went to photograph the joint, and found that Ester is indeed fabulous, cycling in a pool of water has been doing great things to Luke's abs—I mean, beauty—and the water shoes are amazing. Unfortunately, because of their women only policy I was not allowed to take a class (though Esther assured me that the policy will change eventually).

Wow. Like the story they would illustrate, I found these photos unexpectedly fun and involving. For example,

Something about the way the pedals and, particularly, the straps are suspended in the first image gives the still-life an undeniably strong sense of motion.
The lighting reflected on the wall in the third image creates a false horizon — complete with sunlight breaking through the clouds —turning the bike into the prow of some giant piece of maritime engineering.
The next frame makes me uncomfortable as the front of the bike looks like the seat of some very disturbing torture machine.
And as for the next, besides the unexpected sight of a male chest (Luke, I know), I have one word: Piranhas!

Really nice work. I only wish they might also have been included in the main-page presentation, maybe interspersed within the story. I fear not too many will follow the link here.
