The Devil Wants His Weather Back

Markus Hartel · 07/17/13 05:38PM

Anyone who says "I love the summer in the city" is out of their minds! Humidity and heat are mocking the tarmac – impatience and sweat are just around every corner and one wants to avoid rubbing against strangers on the subway at all cost...

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/15/13 08:31AM

Demonstrators gathered at around 1:oo p.m. in Union Square yesterday, to demand justice for Trayvon Martin and his family. BK Nation's Kevin Powell, members of the city counsel, New Yorker's, and tourists passing through the city turned out to show their support.

Crowds Gather in Harlem Demanding Justice for Trayvon

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/14/13 01:58PM

Early this afternoon crowds began to gather in front of the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building in Harlem. Demonstrators called for justice and stated that George Zimmerman's acquittal was a confirmation that the United States' legal system was broken. A few demonstrators suggested that if the government's judiciary system could not be relied upon as a fair institution, we should not be surprised if people try to take justice into their own hands.

It was a 80 degrees and there was a nice breeze in lower Manhattan last night, a perfect evening for a walk.

The Newsstand is Having a Party Tonight

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/11/13 04:06PM

The Newsstand is a one month pop-up zine store in the Lorimer L/Metropolitan G subway station, brought to you by the curators of the 8-ball Zine Fair and the creative agency ALLDAYEVERYDAY. The retail space, located between the two trains, was formerly occupied by a convenient store that sold candy, high fructose corn syrup + water, and trashy magazines. Now you will find bubbly bottled water, art zines, buttons, and Tom Wesselman-esque ladies on the walls. They are having a party tonight and I am curious if/how they are going to get the keg down the stairs.

Colin Quinn Just Sexted Me

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/10/13 11:03AM

He actually texted me the day I shot his portrait. We met up right after his morning work out—he was sweaty and still catching his breath as he explained to me how he was once a sexy muscle jock. Sensing my disbelief, he asked me for my phone number ('How forward of you Mr. Quinn' I said) and before I knew it, this photo was vibrating in my pocket.

The Slow Death of a Lobster

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/08/13 12:23PM

Here is a video of the systematic slaughter of hundreds of party lobsters. Do not fret, it was not for naught, all that perished during the production of the project were consumed at an Independence Day party on Long Island.

The Fourth of July is a time for beer, beaches, bathing suits, and if you are eating whole lobsters, bowels.

How To Get Whiplash : US Air Guitar Semi Finals

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/03/13 11:57AM

The 2013 US Air Guitar Semi-finals were held last night in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom. Mean Melin (Eric Melin) took home the evening's title for an energetic display of thrashing convulsions that brought him to his knees and the crowd to their feet. I can't image the reaction he would have incited if he were actually playing the guitar. Oh yeah, and Danny Tanner was there.

The New Inquiry is Riddled with Alchemists

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/02/13 08:59AM

Rachel Rosenfelt, co-founder and editor of The New Inquiry has been running the online publication since 2009 "all without financial backing or institutional support." That is saying a lot, because she and her team, including Gawker's own Adrian Chen, have created a web platform and monthly digital magazine that has become a place where you will witness the most prominent young writers, artists, thinkers, movers, and shakers shape the future of cultural criticism. Regular alchemists.

During the Pride Parade, Fairies and Queens Take Over 5th Ave

Victor Jeffreys II · 07/01/13 12:44PM

New York City is proud of its LGBTQ community, and it showed at this year's Pride parade. With more than 10,000 marchers sashaying down 5th ave, still high from the recent SCOTUS decisions, you could feel the excitement in the air. Millions of supporters lined the streets cheering along the floats, drag queens, wigs, and witches—it was an incredible site to see.

Victor Jeffreys II · 06/27/13 12:19PM

The NYPD blocked off Christopher Street between 6th and 7th avenues (directly in front of the historic Stonewall Inn) yesterday afternoon so that hundreds of New Yorkers had a place to celebrate SCOTUS's decision on DOMA and Prop 8. Edith Windsor, her lawyer Roberta Kaplan, and throngs of politicians, LGBTQ leaders, and religious leaders joined the celebration.

I Found Anthony Weiner At a Gay Bar

Victor Jeffreys II · 06/27/13 12:17PM

Anthony Weiner was at The Duplex—a gay bar that caters to guys who like to sing Broadway showtunes by the piano—yesterday afternoon celebrating the Supreme Court decisions. I would have assumed he was more of a Townhouse Bar (hustlers and millionaires) kind of guy, but what do I know.
